John Firth was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and adopted into the Yukon Territory. He grew up in Dawson City and Whitehorse and attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. He also studied book editing at the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. His work has included journalism, prospecting, being a laboratory technician, mining exploration camp expeditor, World Cup X-Country Ski championships public relations director, theatre owner, financial advisor and now a full-time writer. He makes his home in Whitehorse, Yukon. He has received the Yukon Commissioner’s Award for his work in preserving Yukon history and culture.
